Untitled (Human Champagne Compositions) 2018
“She was human champagne.”
Quote from an interview with Elizabeth Kiester in Vogue.
The work is based on the summer 2018 suicide of Kate Spade, and how there can be darkness hidden beneath a bright facade.
Celebrity Deaths don’t hit me too hard, but I find the passing of Kate Spade especially tragic. My first designer purchase was kate spade new york. I drink coffee out of a kate spade mug every morning, I wore a kate spade scarf throughout my honeymoon, and I was offered a couple jobs while in kate spade dresses.
A dear friend gave us kate spade champagne flutes for our wedding, and we toast with them on special occasions and Christmas. The accessories are always conversation starters, and they leave me with good stories. My sushi purse. My ice cream necklace. My toucan earrings. The popsicle tote that was seemingly magically released after I founded treat gallery.
Before we moved to New York, Andrew surprised me with a kate spade business card holder.
Professional and playful. Cute and confident. Thanks Kate Spade for empowering me to be the colorful and creative woman I am.
